I am excited and honored to join your heart filled organization as the new executive director. I want to thank everyone for your warm welcome. I want to sincerely thank outgoing executive director Heather Moore, who found a way to thrive during a very challenging time and who has been a lovely guide into the Camp Thorpe family. I would also like to thank the Camp Thorpe board and staff for their support and assistance in helping me transition into this position. Following in Heather’s shoes will not be easy, but with your input, participation and support, we can be assured that Camp Thorpe has a bright future ahead.

My set of professional expertiences includes a number of positions in the non-profit industry. I have worked for stand-alone organizations such as the The Help Group, Hillsides Family Services and the California Association of Private Special Education Programs. Most recently, I worked for a private school serving children and adults with high needs Autism as the executive director. In these roles, I was responsible for all activities including budgeting, financial management, board, committee and volunteer management, recruitment and retention, regional and annual meetings, continuing education program management, new program development and alliance building with special needs organizations.

I thank the Camp Thorpe Board of Directors for this leadership opportunity. I recognize I have a lot to learn about the magic of camp and I intend to invest time and attention to get to know and understand the Camp Thorpe culture; policies and procedures; and the camp environment impacting the broader special needs camp community. I stand with the Camp Thorpe board in its commitment to longevity designed to keep Camp Thorpe a leading voice in what it means to help campers and their families navigate a path toward connection to the outdoors and each other.

Lastly, we have a great staff team here at Camp Thorpe. We are all focused on providing magic for those we serve. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! Feel free to reach out to me at any time. [email protected] I look forward to working with you!

Warm Regards,
Alicia M. Jennings M.A.
