Amy Hill, Assistant Director for Programs and Staff
Hi- I’m Amy and I’m from Northumberland in England. I have been with Camp Thorpe since 2013. I love to travel and have been to quite a few states in the USA but Vermont is home away from home for me (cheesy I know!) When I’m not at camp or work, I like to explore different places in Europe and the rest of the world. Can’t wait to see you all in the summer!
Dan Whittemore, Head Chef
Chef Dan is excited to be joining the Camp Thorpe team for the 2019 season. He comes to camp after four years as the executive chef at Green Mountain College. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a veteran of numerous restaurants and institutions, Chef Dan is well versed in many ethnic and regional cuisines. But ask what’s his favorite thing to make, he’ll answer…..”smiles”.
Katie Giles: Day Nurse
Katie is a native Vermonter and could not be more excited to return to Camp Thorpe this summer! She is currently working as a registered nurse at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph and will be filling in on day shifts at camp as much as she possibly can. When not nursing you may find Katie busting a move on the dance floor or participating in skit night. She also enjoys hiking, biking and travelling.
Alicia McDermott, Head Counselor- Mountain Reach
My name is Alicia and this will be my second year at camp. I’m really excited about returning with a new role! I’m currently in my third year of my degree studying Psychology at the University of Chester but I’m from a little town near Birmingham, England! I’ve always loved dancing and reading when I have free time and I’m also pretty chatty so I loved meeting everyone at camp last year!
Amy Blair, Day Nurse
Heidi Gillespie, Medical Director/Night and Weekend Nurse
When she’s not at Camp Thorpe, Heidi is a Clinical Nurse Supervisor for the Maternal Child Health division of the VNA and Hospice of the Southwest Region. She’s been a nurse for 5 years and was working in health care for 9 years prior to that. Heidi’s family at home consists of 7 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 dogs. She has also been working as a professional photographer for 17 years. In her SPARE TIME, nurse Heidi likes to do crafts, go camping, kayaking, traveling with her family and she loves to read! Each year she travels to Honduras as part of a group of nurses that brings medical care to areas where there is no access to Healthcare. This will be her 6th summer as a camp nurse and her 5th at Thorpe!
Jessica Houck, Assistant Director for Evening Programs and Camper Support
Jess Houck lives in Vermont and is currently working at Proctor Elementary School as a special educator. She is also in school with the hope of becoming a behavior analyst. This will be her 8th year at Camp Thorpe. When not at work, Jess enjoys reading, hiking, and adventuring with friends. She can’t wait to dance and sing her heart out at Camp this summer. She looks forward to seeing all of the familiar faces of camp and getting to know those who are new!
Karen Davidson, Assistant Director for Camper Support
Hi everyone, I’m Karen! I live in Vermont and I’m about to finish my degree in Human Services. I have worked with Camp Thorpe for over 5 years. Outside of camp, I work in special education at the Bellcate School in Essex, Vermont. When I’m not working, I love to kayak and hang out with Stella the cat.
Olivia Marshall, Head Counselor- Pine Haven
I’m Olivia Marshall, I’m 19 years old and I am from a small town in England called Stourbridge. I went to King Edwards VI College and I studied Biology, Sociology, Psychology and Geography. I am an avid traveler and I one day hope to be a store manager of a large retail store! I can’t wait to return to Camp Thorpe in June and I am looking forward to seeing old friends as well as making many new ones!
